Technical Explanation for The Heartbleed Bug
SSL (Secure Socket Layer) software is used on websites to protect users where sensitive data is exchanged. Heartbleed is a security vulnerability in certain versions (1.0.1 thru 1.0.1f.) of OpenSSL software that lets a hacker access the memory of data servers. This means that the bug could possibly access the data – including usernames, passwords, and credit card information. Because OpenSSL software secures hundreds of thousands of Internet sites worldwide this is a serious issue.
