Gloucester, MA –
BankGloucester is hosting a public viewing for artist Jim Murphy starting June 14th through August 6th in BankGloucester’s main lobby at 160 Main Street in Gloucester. The public viewing is a great opportunity to personally see some of Mr. Murphy’s original artwork and learn about the individual paintings themselves.
This exhibit is anchored by two paintings. Each focus on the stone for which Cape Ann is known. The painting, “Bass Rocks”, depicts the shoreline sentinels that sit seemingly in defiance of the sea. They were formed by nature and time.
The painting, “The Quarry Bridge”, portrays the granite structure wrought by human hands in 1872. The span facilitates travel between Pidgeon Cove and the center of Rockport. Beneath the bridge lies the railbed by which blocks of stone were carried from Flat Ledge Quarry to schooners awaiting their cargo at Granite Pier.
Other paintings depict Dogtown in winter, the Essex marshes where the ocean meets the land, where the daylight cedes to the quiet of the evening, and where nature delights the eye.
A collection of Jim’s paintings will be on display at the Bank from June 14th through August 6th, 2022. All are invited to come see these tremendous works of art. Paintings on display as well as those not exhibited are available for purchase at www.jimmurphyfineart.com.
Jim Murphy is a native of Norwood, Massachusetts. He studied at Massachusetts College of Art, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in 1969. “I appreciate what “Mother Nature” has given us. I try to encapsulate that in every painting.” JM
